❓ What Happens If a Student Misses Class?
If a student misses a live class session, they can usually catch up by accessing the class recording and completing any missed assignments.
🎥 Watch the Class Recording
When technology functions properly, all live classes are recorded through Microsoft Teams. Students can:
- Access the recorded class session
- Watch the lesson at their convenience
- Review teacher instructions and demonstrations
- Complete assignments that were introduced during class
📚 Complete Missed Assignments
Many assignments include written directions and resources within Canvas. Students can often complete missed work by:
- Opening the assignment in Canvas
- Reading the instructions carefully
- Watching the class recording if needed
- Completing and submitting the assignment by the required deadline
📝 Report Absences
All student absences should be reported by a parent or guardian using the school’s Absent/Tardy Form.
🔹 Submit an Absence or Tardy Report
🤝 Need Additional Help?
If a student is having difficulty understanding a missed lesson or assignment, families are encouraged to contact the teacher for guidance. Teachers are happy to help students get caught up and back on track.
✅ Staying Caught Up
Missing a class does not mean a student has to fall behind. By reviewing class recordings, checking Canvas regularly, and communicating with teachers, students can successfully complete missed work and continue making progress in their learning.
📘 Independent Workdays: Attendance and Expectations
Independent Workdays may seem like a great opportunity for families to take a day off and enjoy other activities, and they do provide additional flexibility compared to a traditional school day. However, it is important to remember that Independent Workdays are still official school days, and student attendance is required.
Although teachers are not meeting live with the entire class on these days, students are assigned learning activities specifically designed for Independent Workdays. These days allow families more flexibility while helping the school meet state requirements for instructional days and learning minutes.
✅ How Attendance Is Recorded
Attendance on Independent Workdays is based on student participation and completion of assigned work.
Students demonstrate attendance by:
- Completing assigned Independent Workday activities
- Submitting work correctly
- Turning in assignments by the designated deadline
Students who do not complete and submit their assigned work may be counted as absent for that school day.
📅 Friday Independent Workdays
Friday Independent Workdays offer the greatest flexibility for families.
Students may complete their assignments:
- On Friday morning
- Later in the day on Friday
- At another convenient time during the weekend
To be counted present for Friday attendance, all assigned work must be completed and submitted between Friday morning and Sunday at bedtime.
📌 Independent Workdays on Other School Days
Occasionally, Independent Workdays may be scheduled on days other than Friday.
For these special Independent Workdays:
- Students should complete the assigned work on the day it is assigned.
- Work completed on the assigned day will count toward attendance for that day.
- Students who do not complete the work on the assigned day may be marked absent.
📝 What If the Work Is Not Completed?
Even if a student is marked absent because the work was not completed during the required attendance window, the assignments should still be completed and submitted as soon as possible.
Completing late work may:
- Allow the student to earn academic credit for the assignment
- Help prevent gaps in learning
- Keep the student on track with class expectations
However, late completion does not necessarily change the attendance record for that day.
🌟 Tips for Success
- Check Canvas regularly for assignments and directions.
- Plan ahead for family activities and weekend commitments.
- Ask your teacher questions before the Independent Workday if you are unsure about an assignment.
- Submit work as soon as it is completed rather than waiting until the last minute.
- Remember that Independent Workdays provide flexibility, but they are still required school attendance days.
By staying organized and completing assignments on time, students can enjoy the flexibility of Independent Workdays while remaining successful in their learning. 📚✅
