Independent Work Days

📘 Independent Workdays

Independent Workdays are an important part of the learning experience at Inspire Academy. These days typically occur on Fridays, although there may be occasional Independent Workdays scheduled on other school days throughout the year.

✅ Attendance Matters

Independent Workdays are considered required attendance days. Student attendance is determined by the completion and submission of assigned work.

To be counted as present, student must:

  • Complete assigned work
  • Submit assignments correctly
  • Turn in work on time

Students who do not participate in their assigned work may be marked absent for the day.

📚 Finding Your Assignments

Teachers will spend time helping students learn how to locate assignments and navigate class routines. Each teacher may organize assignments differently based on the needs of the class.

When looking for Independent Workday assignments, check:

  • 🏠 Class Homepage
  • 📖 Subject Homepage
  • 📅 Canvas Calendar
  • ✅ Canvas To-Do List

When in doubt, review each class and look for posted assignments and directions.

Friday Flexibility

One benefit of Friday Independent Workdays is the flexibility they provide for families.

Students may choose to:

  • Complete their work early on Friday
  • Sleep in and work later in the day
  • Spread work throughout the weekend
  • Complete assignments by Sunday evening

As long as all work is completed and submitted on time (Sunday bedtime), students will be counted as present for Friday attendance.

🙏 Sabbath Encouragement

As a Seventh-day Adventist school, we encourage students and families to honor the Sabbath as a special time set aside for God.

Although it may be tempting to work on assignments during Sabbath hours, we encourage students to:

  • Spend time in worship
  • Enjoy family activities
  • Connect with church friends
  • Focus on building their relationship with Jesus
  • Take a break from computers and schoolwork

Planning ahead can help students complete their responsibilities while preserving the Sabbath as a special day of rest and worship.

🤒 Weekend Illness

If a student becomes ill over the weekend and is unable to complete Independent Workday assignments on time:

  • Parents should submit an absence using the school’s Absent/Tardy Form
  • The absence may be excused when appropriate
  • Assignments must still be completed and submitted to earn academic credit

📌 Special Independent Workdays

Occasionally, Independent Workdays may be scheduled on days other than Friday.

For these special days:

  • Assignments should be completed on the day they are assigned to count for attendance.
  • Students who do not complete the work that day may be marked absent.
  • Assignments must still be completed and submitted properly to receive academic credit.

Tips for Success

  • Check Canvas regularly.
  • Review all assignments carefully.
  • Plan ahead for Sabbath and family activities.
  • Ask your teacher questions if you are unsure about an assignment.
  • Submit work on time.

By staying organized and completing assignments responsibly, students can successfully manage Independent Workdays while maintaining flexibility for their family schedules. 📚✨
