
💻 Caring for Your School Computer
Your school computer is an important learning tool and is the property of Inspire Academy. Each student is entrusted with a laptop so they can participate fully in online learning. Taking proper care of your computer helps ensure it remains in good working condition throughout the school year and is available for future students when it is no longer assigned to you.
All school-issued computers are subject to review and evaluation by the Inspire Academy IT Department to ensure they are being used and cared for appropriately.
🎒 What Is Included?
Each student is issued:
- 💻 A school laptop
- 🔌 A charging cord
- 🧳 A protective carrying case
Families are responsible for providing:
- 🎧 Headphones or earbuds
- 🖱️ An external mouse (recommended)
- 🖨️ A printer/scanner or other approved external method of scanning and uploading assignments
✅ Proper Care and Use
Students are expected to:
- 🧼 Keep their computer clean and free of dirt and debris
- ✨ Wipe screens, keyboards, and exterior surfaces regularly using appropriate cleaning methods
- 🧳 Store the laptop in its protective case when not in use
- 🔋 Charge the laptop daily
- 🚶 Carry the laptop carefully using both hands or the provided case
- 📚 Use the laptop only for approved educational purposes during school hours
- 🏠 Keep the computer in a safe location away from pets, younger siblings, and potential hazards
🚫 Things That Can Damage Your Computer
To protect school equipment, students should NOT:
- 🍎 Eat while using the computer
- 🥤 Keep open drinks near the laptop
- 🎨 Place stickers on the laptop, charger, or carrying case
- ✏️ Write on the laptop or case
- ⚽ Leave the laptop where it may be stepped on, dropped, or damaged
- 🔨 Slam the screen shut or handle the device roughly
- 🌧️ Expose the laptop to rain, moisture, excessive heat, or direct sunlight
- 🐾 Allow pets near the device while it is being used
🌐 Responsible Technology Use
Students are expected to use school technology responsibly and in accordance with school policies.
Appropriate use includes:
- ✅ Participating in classes and school activities
- ✅ Completing assignments and research
- ✅ Following teacher directions
- ✅ Communicating respectfully with teachers and classmates
Inappropriate use may include:
- ❌ Using the laptop as a clipboard surface to write or draw on
- ❌ Leaving the laptop in an unstable location and allowing it to fall
- ❌ Throwing the laptop around as a stress reliever
- ❌ Using the laptop as a piece of furniture
- ❌ Attempting to bypass school security settings or internet filters
- ❌ Downloading unauthorized software or applications
- ❌ Accessing inappropriate websites or content
- ❌ Using the computer for gaming or other non-school activities during class
- ❌ Sharing passwords or allowing others to use the assigned device
🚨 Reporting Damage
Accidents can happen. If your laptop, charger, or carrying case becomes damaged or stops working properly, notify your teacher or the school immediately.
Please report:
- Cracked screens
- Broken keys
- Charging issues
- Damaged chargers
- Missing accessories
- Software problems
- Any accidental damage
Prompt reporting helps prevent additional damage and allows the IT Department to provide support more quickly.
💲 Damage and Replacement Costs
Normal wear and tear is expected during regular use. However, families may be charged for repairs or replacement costs when damage exceeds normal wear and tear.
Examples may include:
- Cracked or shattered screens
- Liquid damage
- Missing equipment
- Deliberate damage
- Excessive cosmetic damage
- Missing chargers or protective cases
- Damage resulting from misuse or neglect
The Inspire Academy IT Department will evaluate returned equipment and determine whether damage falls within normal wear and tear expectations.
📅 Returning School Equipment
All laptops and school-issued accessories must be returned on the last day of school.
Items to be returned include:
- 💻 Laptop
- 🔌 Charging cord
- 🧳 Protective carrying case
Students withdrawing from Inspire Academy before the end of the school year must make arrangements to return all school-issued equipment within two weeks of withdrawal from the program.
Equipment should be returned in the same condition it was received, allowing for normal wear and tear.
