📚 Textbook Care and Responsibility
At Inspire Academy, textbooks are an important part of the learning experience and are shared resources that serve students from year to year. We ask families to partner with us in helping students care for these materials so they remain in good condition for future use.
Parents are encouraged to review both the Student Textbook Care page, current Handbook, and updated communications for detailed expectations regarding textbook use, care, and replacement costs.
📖 Textbooks Are Rented Educational Materials
Textbooks used by Inspire Academy are rented through the Wisconsin Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Education Department. Because these materials remain the property of the Wisconsin Conference Education Department, students and families are responsible for ensuring that textbooks are properly cared for throughout the school year.
Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, each student is assigned a patron library code, which tracks the specific textbooks checked out to that student. This system allows the Wisconsin Conference Education Department to identify and review the condition of each textbook when it is returned. Families are encouraged to take pictures of their textbooks when checked out and returning them, including the bar code, to have as backup identifying information if needed.
🛡️ Caring for Textbooks
Families are encouraged to help students develop good habits for textbook care, including:
- Keeping textbooks clean and dry
- Avoiding food and drinks around textbooks
- Not writing, highlighting, drawing, or marking in textbooks
- Turning pages carefully to prevent tears
- Storing books in a safe location when not in use
- Protecting books from pets, younger children, and other potential sources of damage
Students should immediately report any accidental damage to their teacher so that the condition can be documented.
💲 Damage Assessments and Charges
Normal wear and tear is expected during the school year. However, families may be responsible for replacement or repair charges when textbooks are returned with damage beyond normal wear and tear.
Examples of chargeable damage may include:
- Excessive writing, highlighting, or markings
- Torn, missing, or damaged pages
- Water or liquid damage
- Missing covers or bindings
- Damage caused by improper storage
- Lost textbooks
- Damage caused by food, drinks, pets, or neglect
When textbooks are returned, the Wisconsin Conference Education Department will evaluate their condition. Any damage charges assessed by the Education Department will be the responsibility of the student’s family.
📅 Returning Textbooks
All textbooks are due on the last day of school.
Families should ensure that all assigned textbooks are returned in good condition and ready for check-in and evaluation.
Students Withdrawing Before the End of the School Year
Students who withdraw from Inspire Academy before the last day of school must return all textbooks through the Wisconsin Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Education Department.
📦 Textbooks must be returned by registered, trackable mail no later than two weeks after the student’s withdrawal date.
Families are encouraged to retain mailing receipts and tracking information until the Education Department confirms receipt of the materials.
🤝 Partnering Together
Textbooks are valuable educational resources that benefit many students over time. By helping students care for their books properly and ensuring their timely return, families help reduce replacement costs and support the continued availability of quality learning materials for all students.
For additional information, please review the Student Textbook Care Page, the Student Handbook, and any school communications regarding textbook expectations and return procedures. 📚✨
